Breaking News: Workers shutdown Embassy of Nigeria in Washington
Per Second News----Dozens of workers at the embassy of Nigeria in Washington have gone on strike Tuesday in a dispute over pay and working conditions, Per Second News gathered.
Workers complained over delay in the payment of their salaries. " We are being owed for the past five months"
Some of the civil servants who spoke on the development said the situation has caused them untold hardships, threatening to report the embassy to the U.S Labor department.
There are some 50- 100 workers who basically run the day-to-day operations of the embassy, including secretarial and security activities, and they claim that they have not had their salaries or benefits for some 5 months.
The embassy was on shutdown today with workers gathering at the lunch room in the basement of the embassy.
The embassy in Washington and the consulate in New York are currently cash strapped with staff and local workers owed months of wages.
Per Second News in a report last month revealed that the background of the embassy building reveals fading wall paints.
It was Michelle Obama during her crusade to elect Hillary Clinton that said “when they go low, we go high” but the Nigerian Flag at the country's embassy in Washington decided to ditch Michelle’s credo and dive to new lows in expressing its own anger at recent happenings in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Flag the most visible symbol of our country flying above the U.S. Capitol is tattered and its colours are fading.
Clearly, it's been up there for years to have gotten so much sun it has become ragged, it's terrible," onlooker Peter Gomez told Per Second News reporter in front of the embassy.
"It should be fixed now, you know?" said one Nigerian "Not later, not tomorrow, right now. It's an official government building with our nation's flag.
