Fresh Ebola scare in Congo...1, 300 km away from Nigeria
Congo is battling a new outbreak of Ebola.
The World Health Organization confirmed Friday that a laboratory-confirmed case of Ebola emerged in the central African country Thursday.
Congo was not one of three West African countries that were hit the hardest by the 2014 outbreak. Those were Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.
The 2014 outbreak led to more than 10,000 deaths, with most in those three African countries.
But Congo wasn't completely spared from the outbreak. The country had 49 deaths and 66 cases in 2014, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Nigeria had a no fewer than a dozen cases and some deaths, in the last outbreak.
One medical humanitarian organization, Alima, which works in Africa, said it is sending additional doctors, nurses, logisticians, epidemiologists and water, sanitation and hygiene experts to the region.
“The population lives in a remote area where access to health care is extremely limited,” Alima said in a tweet
